Finding Time to Sleep and Rest after Birth
Fatigue and sleep deprivation present a great challenge to your physical and emotional recovery. Finding time to sleep may seem an impossible task. Let your need for sleep and rest take precedence over non-essential household chores. Even if you cannot sleep, simply resting is restoring. Rest will give you energy to meet your baby’s unpredictable needs to be fed and cared for throughout the day and night. If you have other children at home, meeting their needs for attention and care will also be easier.
Many parents will find that their babies seem to sleep better during the day than at night. Newborn night wakefulness is common and temporary. Gradually, newborns will assume the wake-sleep cycles of their families.
